War Weary Marketers Turn to Google News

The latest Google update delivered a tremendous blow to many bloggers and internet marketers. Many website owners and internet marketers who had been solely dependent on article directories for their source of traffic found themselves out in the cold with the latest Google changes.

"We had articles that had been in the top of the rankings for years just disappear," exclaimed Jeremy Tyler, internet marketer for over 12 years. "We came to realize that in some cases it was not the quality of the article, but simply the subject matter that was a problem." "Evidently some subjects are now just considered too spammy for Google."

As any internet marketer knows, change is just part of the game and the rules can change at any moment. Due in part to the recent Google changes, Google news sites have become an increasingly popular source of traffic. "The content must be good, original and have a newsy angle," said Tyler. "We have submitted many press releases in the hopes of getting Google news coverage. These press releases are not always accepted and are not always successful. We have found , however, that when we do our keyword research and are able to get into the Google news cycle, the rewards can be amazing."

Using Google news as a marketing tool is very different than article marketing. While one well placed press release can make you thousands of dollars, the traffic producing exposure is usually limited to a few days. As Tyler confirmed, "With the right keywords, sometimes a few days is all it takes."

Keyword research is very important when writing for Google news. Sometimes you even get lucky and rank for what seems to be an impossible keyword, but it is always better to play it safe by using long tail keywords that should guarantee a nice ranking in Google News.
